New Deck & Ledger board 3 Years, 8 Months ago
Plan on constructing a 12x20 deck. When my home was built, the builder installed a ledger board onto the back where the deck will go. Looking at the plans, I dont need it. Can I attach the deck to the ledger board and use the blocks for the remaining structure. Looking at it, seems I can for go the row of blocks closest to the house. Thanks

If you want to attach the deck to the house, you'll need to go with standard construction methods using footers and beams. The floating system is designed to be completely independent and to have the ability to move up and down with climate changes, frost in particular. Your house will not have the same movement, so attaching a floating deck to a solid house could result in damage to both.

I'd spend the extra $66 for the third row of Dek-Blocks, or else go with standard construction.

Similiar situation for me. I have a little space (not enough for 2" x 6" decking, but 5/4" x 6") between the top of the ledger board and trim around the siding.

Would it be okay to slide the decking into that little notch, or would it be best to just remove the ledger board completely to give more up/down play for frost heave?

Thanks!
