Hi,

I have designed a new deck to sit at the bottom of the stairs from my existing deck. I want the new deck to be the same height as the bottom tread of the stairs. I have designed a layout that is a modification of the standard 12x28 plan.

Now I am wondering how I should construct this to make sure its square and level. I've reviewed deckplans.com/how-to-build-a-rectangular-deck . Should I start with the block right next the stairs, and create the frame using the 4 rows of blocks, and then create a frame for the back couple of rows?

Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks!

This foundation plan looks pretty good. I don't see any that looks out of the specifications. What kind of decking are you using on this. It looks like its designed for 2x6 decking.

This is a project where its not going to matter so much where you start so much as you get started. You will be able to answer most of your questions when you start building.

Thanks! I was looking at the modifications page, it looks like I should treat this as two separate decks (the L shaped modification), and one will have the 45 degree angle.

This is for 2x6 decking.

btw, I used the free google sketchup tool ( sketchup.google.com/ ) with the 3D dek block model ( sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?...89cb&prevstart=0 )

I highly recommend google sketchup, it allows you to virtually build your deck first.
