Adding a Pergola to a Traditional Deck? 9 Months, 1 Week ago
I have a traditionally built deck (without Dek-Blocks)and am looking to a add a pergola. I am thinking of using the Dek-Blocks for the support posts and placing them under the current deck floor. Is there any different recommendations for the number of Dek-Blocks required since it will be supporting a Pergola only? The Pergola would only be 10' X 18'.

It will not be a good idea to use the blocks for the pergola. You could end up with an unstable pergola if you do. The pergola would need to be free standing and not attached to the deck.

When you say free standing, does that mean it can sit on top of the deck without being attached? Or, should it be lag bolted to the joists?

by free standing I meant that the pergola needs to be free from the floating deck. the pergola needs to have footings that extend into the ground below the frost line. Don't lag or bolt the pergola to the deck.

Sorry for the confusion
