Am looking to put deck in this weekend. On front of the house will be doing a 10x14 deck, right around 12-20 inches off the ground. That is pretty straightforward with your plans here. My question and issue is that there is an exisitng cement stoop, 3 steps about 4 1/2ft wide that I would just like to cover and go over rather than removing. Question is.. should i Dek Blok around and make a frame for this or just attach wood right to the cement and cover that way?

Your deck sounds really low. A 12" deck does leave much room to work around that step. In this case the best solution is to take out the step rather than try to work around it. I think that if you try to work around it you might end up with a deck that has some spring to it.
