will frost push up blocks? 3 Years, 11 Months ago
Hi,

I am ready to purchase all my material to build an 8'x12' pool deck when my friend voiced concerns about the land shifting during the winter. I live in NY and he said that in the winter months the ground may push up the posts making an uneven deck surface. is this a real concern and will be my deck be all lopsided after one cold winter?

Thank you,
Kevin

It should all move uniformally that is how this system works. Other wise you have to put in footings below your local frost line.

Our floating foundation deck system is designed to float above the ground and move with the earth during the freeze and thaw of New York winters (or Minnesota winters, in our case.) A pool deck is very common usage for our system. You can find several free design plans under "plans" on this site.

Also, I attached some info on frost heave and how our system works

Good Luck,

Photos of deck during winter months 3 Years, 11 Months ago
Hi Kevin,

I am the winner of Deck of the month August 2003. I built my deck using Dek-Blocks in 2003 and have not had any problems. I live in Upstate New York where the winters are cold and long. The deck has been through three winters and is still level and the frost heave has been minimal at best. I have photos of these blocks in use at http://decks.hemmingsjones.com . In addition, here are some photos of the blocks under the pool deck www.hemmingsjones.com/decks/blocks.html

Below is are two photo to show how the blocks have't changed. and the snow and the deck with the blocks.

Snow...

Hope this helps seeing how the blocks look under the deck.
