Building side pool deck question about heave 2 Years, 11 Months ago
i was told by someone that the frost heave could cause my deck to tumble or topple into my pool. Is this something that could happen. I don't want to build something that is permanent in my yard by having to cement posts into my yard when in ten years I may decide I don't want the pool anymore. Explain to me what Frost heave does, and how much the ground could move...Also how does the dek block deck deal with frost heave...Is this something built into the design plans? I just want to know that my deck is safe for people in the summer time and in the winter time it won't topple over on my pool. I live 45 miles south east of Chicago.

Frost heave is always a concern when building a deck. This is one of the most common questions we get. Let me first put your mind at ease by letting you know that I have never heard of a deck toppling or tumbling because of frost heave.

Here is a link that explains much more about how the floating foundation reacts to frost.
