Absolutely. When installing the handrail, it's recommended that each of the notched handrail posts be secured to the frame of the deck with two 4 1/2" bolts. Then each of the spindles is attached to the vertical 2" x 6" that spans between each of the posts on the top and of course to the frame of the deck below.

I would like to do something different...because of course why would I follow the directions??? Basically, I would like to run a 2" x 4" approximately 3" from the floor of the deck and another 2" x4" about 3" from the top of each of the handrail posts. Each of the 2" x 4"'s would be toe nailed into the handrail posts. Then, I would like to attach of the spindles to the 2" x 4"'s creating a handrail.

I've included a link to what I kinda want to do.

My question is, will the handrail posts be secured tightly enough to the frame of the deck to support the handrail safely?

I like that you have sense of humor. It makes this forum a little lively. Thanks.

Take a look a the 4' splash deck. It has a different design for a splash deck handrail that looks more like what you would like.

If you would like please email your question about the handrail to the following email address. We might be able to give you a little more support.
