TOPIC: Higher Decks steps to Floating Deck
#6012
Higher Decks steps to Floating Deck 11 Months ago
I have an existing (8ft high) deck and I am thinking of installing a lower pool deck with Dek Block foundation. I want to have the steps from the existing deck go down to the floating deck and sit on it

Here is my question:
Can I just have the steps from the top deck sit on top of the lower floating deck or....... should I build a platform (with posts to frost line) and run the floating deck under it?

Perhaps you have another suggestion?????

If your floating deck is going to be 2 feet high then the stairs will be 6 feet from the old deck to the new deck. At that height you can either attach stairs to the old deck and let them float on the floating deck (don't attached the stairs to the new deck). The other option you have is to build the small deck (4'x4') with frost footings and building your floating deck around the small deck. Something that works pretty well is to have you small deck one step up from you floating deck.
