TOPIC: Patio blocks as decking

Patio blocks as decking 1 Year, 11 Months ago
Hi there

I want to build a deck and use your dek-block support system. I want to use 15.5" x 15.5" x 1.5" textured colored surface concrete sidewalk blocks for decking. I plan to space the support stringers 12" apart and insert perpendicular 2" x 4" cross supports so that each block is supported by a 12" square perimeter. The extra weight (over wood decking) is my concern. Should I use closer spacing for the extra weight or are the plans on your site sufficient?

Stone decking is a relatively new idea and to be honest I have never worked with it. I just don't know enough about the system to give you proper advice in that area.

Rather than use stone sidewalk blocks why not use the the correct decking material. There are several companies that sell stone decking. It might be easier and less expensive to install. Also, they can let you know if the deck needs to be modified for the additional load.
