Winner: Tony Giovannini - April 2001
Overview
Dear Ms. Cindy Thompson:
Thanks for your kind and very generous donation to my Eagle Scout project. I, along with the staff and children of City House appreciate your generosity. City House is a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to helping our youth and their families that need shelter and counseling. Your donation of the 40 Dek Blocks made it possible for us to construct a wooden floor in a building that only had a dirt floor. It took two full days of sometimes hard work with the help of over 40 people including scouts, parents, friends and leaders. With only a dirt floor, this building was of little use. Now with a wooden floor, City House can now use this building for storage and many other purposes. With your help the Scouts have been able to make a worthwhile contribution to the community. I hope the collaboration of ours will set an example for others to help their fellow man in their own community. I have sent along with this letter before and after photos of the deck as well as pictures in progress. I hope you are as pleased as I am with the results.
Thanks again.
Yours In Scouting,
Anthony (Tony) J. Giovannini
BSA Troop 221 Eagle Scout Candidate
Dear Tony:
On behalf of the Board of Directors, the staff and the children, I would like to express my gratitude for putting a wood floor in our shed; the Eagle Scout Project that you designed, organized, supervised, worked on and completed at Collin Intervention To Youth, Inc. The shed only had a dirt floor and so we were limited as to what we could store in there.
I observed your leadership skills over the course of the two days it took to complete the project. You showed good problem solving skills when the floor was too high and dug trenches to bring it down level with the outside cement. You organized a group of scouts and parents (at least 15 each day) to assist with the floor and set up refreshments. You motivated people to work hard, work in rainy and muddy conditions, and finish the job. You took initiative by asking me for additional chores that needed to be done when you had extra help.
I noticed all these things, and I am very impressed with the job that you did. You are a fine example of an Eagle Scout. You are also a fine example of a positive role model for young people. You, your family, and the other troop members and families gave volunteer time to an emergency shelter for teens, and through this project, it showed them that people in the community care about them.
Thank you very much for all your efforts, and please extend my thanks to everyone who participated.
Sincerely,
Kelly Young, LMSW-ACP
