Frank and Adele - Pool Deck Project
Summer 2004

5/9/04 - As you can tell by the dates, progress is going slow, mostly because it's either been cold, rainy, or busy. Got the pool cover off this week.

Cross bracing is installed. Not only do you need to cut the boards at an angle to make them cross diagonally, you also need to cut them at a 7-degree angle the board-thickness way in order to accommodate the angle of the trapezoid frames. Obviously, it helps to have a miter saw that does angles both ways.   According to deckplans.com's building plans, cross-bracing is only necessary if the deck is over 30", so I only needed to put bracing in the first three, and in the last segments. I would have done all of them if I would have had the room, but the majority of them are right above the ground level.

In most cases towards the middle, there was no need or way to do cross-bracing.

I did, however install bracing depth-wise on all supports. The problem is, the bracing should alternate in direction, but in most places, I was unable to do that. I can only run bracing from the pool side to the outside.
